After
a tricky summer with very unseasonal weather, things
are quiet again in the vineyard. We harvested on 28th
February, 2008, with lots of help from Kalk Bay residents
who were keen to pitch in. Our crop this year was down
from last year and we only got 33 crates of grapes,
which was disappointing. Next year the challenge will
be to up our yield and to farm more organically.
We only sprayed twice for mildew and unfortunately
our vines were affected. With little Sofia stomping down
the rows of vines, we don’t want to spray more regularly
which means we have to find a workable alternative. We also
didn’t put down snail killer which means they had a field
day. The little blue pellets are far too tempting for a
toddler!
